Bitterroot Valley
Stevensville is Montana's oldest town, and its housing shows that history: turn-of-the-century homes downtown, mid-century ranches on the edges, and newer construction spreading out toward the Eastside Highway and the foothills. Older homes in downtown Stevensville often have boilers, radiators, wall furnaces or ductwork that has been modified several times over the decades. Adding modern air conditioning or replacing a tired furnace in those homes takes some care, and ductless mini-splits are frequently the cleanest solution. Out toward the Eastside Highway, Burnt Fork and the Lee Metcalf Refuge area, homes are newer and larger, with shops and outbuildings that need their own conditioning.
